ABOUT EDT

PARTNERSHIPS

EDT forms relationships with a variety of other organizations to pursue strategic options that can mutually benefit mills, EDT, and other supplier groups.

Enzyme fermentation and development organizations
EDT seeks the most advanced enzyme varieties that might offer unique value to the pulp and paper industry. Consequently, EDT maintains relationships with a broad group of companies and institutions that are on the leading edge of enzyme discovery. EDT’s strategy is to have the most comprehensive library of potential enzyme products for the world, to ensure that EDT can manufacture the most appropriate and cost-effective blends of products for its customers. Organizations conducting work that might be of interest to EDT are encouraged to contact EDT to establish a collaborative relationship.

Wastepaper and fiber suppliers
One of the key advantages of EDT’s technology is the ability to enable pulp and paper mills to generate higher quality output from lower quality input. Whether in wastepaper recycling or virgin fiber processing, opportunities exist to help mills downgrade to cheaper fiber sources while maintaining final pulp and paper qualities. For example, EDT’s close working relationships with wastepaper suppliers provides EDT a deep knowledge of available furnishes along with the base fibers, inks, coatings, fillers and stickies that come with them. Our customers leverage EDT’s experience to identify, obtain, and use cost-effective furnishes that would otherwise be difficult or impossible to deink using traditional chemical processes. Likewise, in virgin mills seeking to process problematic tree species, EDT can help mills work with fiber procurement groups to deliver a lower cost level of pulp and paper production.

Complementary, value-added chemical companies
Enzymatic deinking, pitch control, and bio-bleaching enzymatic treatments are proven performers for paper mills seeking to improve their operations. However, enzymatic treatments are only part of an overall chemical approach. EDT works with complementary, value-added chemical companies to ensure our products
coexist with our customer’s existing mill chemistries. This cooperative approach to mill management simplifies the process of matching our enzymes and complementary chemistries to mill functions, which leads to faster deployments
and fewer in-process complications.

Equipment suppliers and engineering/design firms
One of the reasons pulp and paper mills turn to EDT is because EDT is committed to improving its customers’ operational efficiencies with the most capital-efficient approach possible. While EDT can debottleneck existing operations, EDT also works closely with equipment vendors and engineering firms on new mill projects to ensure the most cost-effective design possible and the most effective ongoing operations.
