EDT Receives Cascades 2013 Sustainable Supplier Award
Norcross, Georgia, February 4, 2014 – Enzymatic Deinking Technologies (EDT) is proud to announce it has been chosen as the recipient of the 5th edition of Cascades’ Sustainable Supplier Award for its commitment to sustainable development. This award is given each year by Cascades to publicly acknowledge the efforts of suppliers who have a positive impact on its products, processes and manufacturing methods. Projects undertaken are also assessed on their environmental, social and overall economic impact to the customer’s business. EDT is honored to have been chosen as this year’s Sustainable Supplier.

EDT specializes in and relies on its knowledge of enzymes and how they can benefit the paper industry. Enzymes are highly specific proteins that occur naturally and act as catalyzers to create change. By using an appropriate enzyme blend, paper mills can modify fibers and, as a result, their manufacturing process yielding many positive enhancements. In the tissue segment, these include producing more tons per day, enhancing sheet strength, bulk, softness, reducing manufacturing costs through less costly fibers, higher fiber yield, reduced sheet grammage, longer felt lives, less refining and use of other applied mill chemistries, and reduced drying costs.

The Sustainable Supplier Award is a prime example of the importance Cascades places on good business relations. According to Cascades CEO Mario Plourde, “Innovative products and manufacturing processes are often the result of concrete solutions proposed by suppliers. Taking the time to recognize these suppliers’ efforts and commitment is only fair.”

James Tausche, co-founder and CEO of EDT, thanked Cascades for the honor: “The Sustainable Supplier Award is an excellent incentive for companies to work harder and aim higher for a client. The sense of accomplishment itself feels good, but receiving a public award from this client in particular is even more rewarding.” Convinced that EDT’s expertise can provide Cascades with a wide range of benefits, Tausche added that EDT looks forward to continuing work to advance and deploy this technology throughout the mill network in the coming years.
